Liz, I have been following your outreach and we are involved somewhat in giving you food from our pantry. Perhaps we can provide more like blankets and food prepared in our kitchen plus we have medical staff. Thanks...

I also found your blog through the freakonomics mention, and have continued to read your fascinating stories. Thank you for this wonderful post. I was (ridiculously) happy to hear a story where someone in the government acted rationally and compassionately. Thanks again.

Hi, Liz. This is Leanne... formerly of Charlotte, now in Athens, GA.

I read your blog often, but no entry has made me feel quite like this one. As a library paraprofessional with hopes of going into public librarianship, I find the partnership between FNB and the public library completely awe-inspiring.

I am currently in library school, and have grown incensed at the classism and racism that appears rampant throughout the profession. I can't go through a library class without someone bringing up the "homeless problem." This entry gives me hope for the future of libraries - not just as book depositories, but as community centers.

I can't think of a more appropriate group to be allied with the public library. The programming sounds fantastic, and I applaud FNB and the library for your commitment to humanity.

That story just brought tears to my eyes. I lived in Greensboro for a little while, and if I had known about the good things going on there, I probably would have stayed!

Awesome! I love that idea of anything can happen; it's us that determines what's possible. Also a good example of the library being used in era where they are struggling to remain relevant.

Hey Liz,

I imagine you get more traveler kids coming through Greensboro then it's humanly or inhumanly possible to remember, but a couple summers ago I was one of them, and I remember doing a Food Not Bombs serving at that library. Hurrah for being invited inside! And hurrah for you writing about it!
All the best!
